Notification/warning if alignment doesn't have active profile.

If an aligmment has a vertical profile, can we please ensure that it's active. The profile creation process is labourious in this software, and to find out that your profiles are empty at the end of this process as there weren't active isn't great.

Hopefully this should be an easy fix.

Additionally, any change would most likely result in more errors. A user currently can't proceed with certain things if there is no active profile. No 3D line is generated, certain plan production cannot occur, etc. When this happens, users can be confused, but they simply have to go back to the profile window and choose which element within the profile window is correct and should be the active profile for the horizontal. With many profiles having many elements, the automatic nature being describes concerns me, especially when the "fix" for this issue is very very simple...

I don't want this change. The process is different for sure, but the way the software works, it works well. People that have issues with this are just new to the software. This issue goes away in time with use. This is one area where Bentley's approach is good.

Hi James - fair point about the multiple profiles.

My issue as mentioned above was the trouble of going through profile production only for there to be no profile active.

Maybe a pop-up during profile production to ensure the user has a profile selected from a drop down list?

    Thanks

I have some follow-up questions so we can try to understand the desired software behavior. How would you like the software to work if there's an EGL and PGL? Do you want the software to always assume the PGL should be active? Is that true for all projects and all profiles? What if the PGL doesn't cover the entire station range of the EGL; should we assume the longer profile or the PGL?

Regarding your first question - if there is a single profile, I'd like to be made automatically active.

If there are multiple profiles, then I can imagine this being an issue.

Could you clarify by which profile you'd like to make active automatically? Some tools already do this. What if there are multiple profiles associated with one alignment, which profile would you like to make active?
