Staged Construction Optionality

Staged construction is a very common construction methodology. The current process of modeling staged construction in OBM is to model each stage as separate bridges. This creates problems when modeling a steel I-girder bridge as the cross-frames between the stages cannot be modeled; therefore, the quantities cannot be accurately tabulated in the reports. Further, there is a current limitation that the deck edge cannot be inside of the outside edge of the steel girder top flange (i.e. the beam overhang cannot be less than half of the top flange width). This prohibits accurate modeling of the individual stages.
