Similar to all the other models, we regularly want to go in and out of Alignment Profile models and the current methods of having to navigate to the geometry to access it is very disruptive and inefficient. Also, having these as hidden models limits the potential of users to be able to use them with certain Microstation workflows.
One thing that would be much better for users would be to make this a visible model in the dgn models list - always for referenced profile models and only optionally for live design models.
Perhaps a tool to "Create Indexed Profile Model" to specifically control this in the live models? Naturally deleting this would only delete the visibility of the model and not the model itself.
For referenced models on the other hand, being able to delete the referenced Profile models may also be very useful for users with many Alignments in use (like in Profile Drawing container files) and allow users to "refresh" the Referenced Profile model (with a warning dialog of course).
This would also address some workflows users have where they want to:
reference in profile view into 2d model for some traditional iterative design workflows
overlay other profile models quickly and easily
quick exports of raw profiles with temp annotation
batch update/create 3d cuts, etc.
allow for some annotation tools/analysis to work in referenced profile models

I would hope that any improvement would also address struggles that can occur if someone accidentally deletes the reference file that's created in the profile view when a profile window is created from a referenced horizontal as described in this community post.

In addition to the original poster’s comments, the ability to use the profile model as a container model for level display management would be a much better option to current workflow. Especially if multiple alignments/profiles are being used within the same DGN, every time you open/reopen a profile view the levels are either all on or all off depending on how MS_REF_NEWLEVELDISPLAY is defined. We’ve submitted several support requests related to this topic and have never received a solution that makes sense so that the average user can understand. Most recent case CS0074236.
The hidden model should be exposed with graphics. It is impossible to view/review a profile unless it is cut to a sheet with a viewer tool, unless it is in iTWIN
